Chapter 8: Life of the Party

“Brenna, Brenna, Brenna!” Blake ran up the stairs to his bedroom, taking them two at a time.  He skidded to a halt in front of her, just as she shut the treadmill down and stepped off.

“Hi,” he managed, just as she looked at him in startlement.

“Hi…” she managed.  “Blake, what in the Simverse?  Are you ok?”

“I’m more than ok!  Guess what babe!”

She still looked a little- concerned.  “What?  Is everything alright?”

So much for waiting… –snorts and is ignored by the two sims—

“Everything is better than alright!  I made it into the minors!  I’m a Llamacorn!”

Brenna looked blank for a moment, then what he said sank in.  “Oh, baby!  That’s amazing!  Congratulations!”  She threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.

“We need to celebrate!”

Blake waggled his eyebrows at her and she giggled.  He grabbed her hand and led her from the balcony, into their bedroom.

“So, hun, I’ve taken the liberty to inviting a few people over on your next day off,” Brenna murmured to her husband as they sat at the island after breakfast.

“Oh yeah?”

“Yup, to celebrate your promotion!”

Blake smiled at his wife, leaning over to kiss her, then took her hand and lead her to the couch.  The two sat down side by side.

“You’re beautiful ya know that?” he murmured into her ear.

“Thank you, Mr. Hanover,” she replied, smiling.

“You are quite welcome, Mrs. Hanover.”

Brenna smirked at him.  “I am not a ‘Missus’ yet, pal!”

He cocked a brow at her.  “I beg to differ, oh wifey o’ mine!”

She stuck her tongue out at him even as Christopher came out of his bedroom, talking on his phone.  “-definitely, Seth!” he was saying.  He waved good morning to his parents even as he plopped down on the other end of the couch.

Blake grinned at his son, then looked at his wife.  His gaze narrowed and he grinned wickedly.

“Blake… behave,” Brenna warned, though she had to keep the laugh out of her voice.

“Never!” Blake chortled as he grabbed her and began to tickle her mercilessly.

Chris rolled his eyes, but he was grinning.  “Nah, it’s just my mom, Seth.  Dad’s tickling her.”  He laughed.  “Yeah.  So, you comin’ over soon?  Awesome!  See ya then!”  He hung up his phone and then looked at his parents, grinning.  “Seth’s gonna come over for a little bit.  I’m gonna take a shower, then head outside to meet him.  Don’t get into too much trouble guys!”

Blake arched a brow at his wife.  “Did our son just tell us to stay outta trouble?”

Brenna giggled.  “I do believe he did.”

Her husband snorted, then looked around.  “Let’s uh- misbehave then, while he’s occupied, shall we?  What he don’t know, can’t hurt him!”

Brenna giggled and she led her husband from the living room, the two laughing like school children while the water ran in the shower.

“Seth!”

“Chris!  Hey man!”

The two boys laughed and joked around.  “Whoa, Chris, that’s quite the story!” Seth told his friend.  “But I got a better one!”

When Seth got done with his, Chris had to hold onto his stomach because it hurt from laughing so hard.

“Hey,” Chris said, still chuckling.  “Wanna head to the park?”

Seth was about to answer, when his phone went off.  He looked at the text and grimaced.  “Sorry, man, I gotta go home.  Mom says we got somethin’ to do.  Sorry!  Next weekend?”

“You got it!  Thanks for comin’, buddy!”  Chris gave him a back-slapping hug.

“Have you seen Chris?” Blake asked his wife.

She frowned.  “Ya know, I haven’t, not since Seth had to leave.  Shall we go find him?”

Blake nodded.  The two looked in his room first; there was no sign.  They stopped and Brenna tilted her head to the side.  “I think he’s up in our room…”

The two got upstairs and found this:

Blake laughed.  “Son?  What ya doin in there?”

“Exploring a cave, Dad!”

Brenna grinned.  “Well, c’mon, lunch is ready, kiddo.”

“Hey, Dad, can I go to the park?”  Chris asked as he and his dad were eating.

“Sure, son.  I’ll drop you off on my way to the stadium.  Sound good?  Your mom will come and get you later.”

“Thanks, Dad!”

“Hey up there!” Christopher called up to the girl in the crow’s nest of the pirate ship at Magnolia Blossom Park.

“Hi!” she answered back, grinning.  “I’m Aisha!  Aisha Busby.”

“Chris, Chris Hanover.  Mind if I play Pirates with ya?”

“Come aboard, matey!”

Hey Brenna, what ya up to?

“I just applied to the Science Center!”

Oh yeah?  Nice!

“I know, right?  And Blake’s been really good so far.  I can see he worries about it, but he hasn’t said anything.  He’s really trying.”

Yeah, he definitely loves you.  And he’s doing better.  He can beat the ‘little voices’ in the back of his head.

“Cap’n!  Sea monster off the port bow!”

“Fire at will!  Hurry ye scurvy dogs!”

“Hey, Dad!”

”Hey, little man!  How was the park?”

“Great!  I made a new friend.  Her name’s Aisha.  And she makes a heck of a pirate!”

“That’s my boy!” Blake said with a chuckle.  “C’mon, it’s gettin’ late.”  He followed after his son as Chris ran into the house, Blake chuckling at the exuberant energy.

“Morning mom!”  Chris grinned at his mother.  His blue eyes sparkled.  “Today’s the party right?  The party to celebrate Dad’s spot on the Llamacorns?”

“Yup, it sure is!  Get some breakfast and then get ready.”

“Morning family!”  Blake padded down the stairs, his bare feet making soft pattering noises on the wooden slats.

“Morning Dad!” Chris called as he bolted out of the kitchen to get ready.

“Morning, sweetheart,” Brenna greeted.

Blake went to his wife and kissed her cheek.  “Your boy is full of it today, isn’t he?”

“Uh, I hate to tell you, but when he’s like this, he’s YOUR son,” Brenna retorted with a grin.

“Neither of you can deny me!” Christopher called as he jumped out at them.

Blake snorted.  “Nice outfit, son.  I like it!”

Chris smirked up at his father.  “It’s me, ain’t it, Dad?”

He ruffled his son’s hair.  “It sure is.”

“Ya know, hun, I can do the cooking today.  It is YOUR party, after all,” Brenna pointed out.

“Nah, it’s fine.  Besides, I kinda like doin’ it, especially since the Watcher let’s me make stuff aside from salads!”

I heard that…

He grinned smugly.  “I know.  I meant ya to.”

Brat…

“You know you love me,” Blake commented.

Yeah, yeah… suppose I do.  Oop, there are your guests now!  Just in time, too.

There was lots of laughter and congratulations in the Hanover house as a few of their neighbors and friends joined them to celebrate Blake’s promotion.

“Congratulations, baby,” Brenna murmured, giving her husband a kiss on the cheek.

“Thank you.”  Blake smiled at her tenderly.

The party wound down and everyone went home, leaving just the three of them.  “Dad, I didn’t get a chance to really say it yet, but I wanted you to know I’m really proud of you!”

Blake had to swallow as he gave his son a hard hug.  “You have no idea what that means to me, son,” he murmured.  He pulled away and looked at Christopher.  “Hey, why don’t we go to the park for a little while?  Sound like a plan?”

Chris gave a whoop.  “You’re the best, Dad!”

Blake smiled as his son bolted out the door.  Brenna laughed.  “I’ll see you boys when you get back.”  Blake kissed her and then headed out after his son.
